What is your club ethos?

Yorkshire Cogs and Roses Cycling Club – club values

What is the best thing about your club?

We frequently use the hashtag #strongertogether. This originates from how we became established and how we will progress.

What club rides do you run?

Yorkshire Cogs and Roses Cycling Club – club rides

We offer a variety of rides as detailed in the sheet above.  Various distances, speeds, times of day and days of the week. Anyone can post on the members Facebook page to lead a club ride.

Do you wait for dropped riders / mechanicals on some or all of your rides?

Yes. However there is a level of expectation on the advanced ride that you would have the capacity and ability to act independently of the group.

What is the minimum standard you would expect from new club riders?

A certain level of competence and confidence. New riders should be able to cycle the leisure ride option (over 1 hour averaging 8-10 mph).

What do you expect riders to bring on club runs?

We currently have a separate COVID document which notes the following:

  • All riders to carry gloves (ideally latex free), face mask (buff/bandana can be used) and alcohol gel.
  • We expect riders to have a helmet and road worthy bike, ICE (in case of emergency) details and spare inner tube / repair kit.

Are bikes other than road bikes acceptable on any rides?

Yes, as long as they are road worthy

Aspects of cycling the club is involved in:

Social rides (Indoor and outdoor on platforms like Zwift)

Organised rides (Indoor and outdoor on platforms like Zwift)

Organising sportives

Taking part in sportives

Do you run club social events?

Yes.

Number of members (roughly):

70

Current percentage of female members:

100% – Women’s Only Club

Do you have a women’s development officer?

No

Please give details of any projects you have or are running to support and encourage women.

We support the Yorkshire Lass Sportive. Most members volunteer to support this annual event and the club Vice Chair is the lead organiser. The sportive in turn supports three women’s cancer charities.

Unfortunately this year’s Yorkshire Lass sportive had to be cancelled due to Covid-19. The 2021 date and registration details are already set.

During COVID we have implemented a ‘Summer Lovin Relay Challenge’ – one of the members knitted a club heart in club colours that has passed from one member to another (in a plastic wallet with social distancing respected). The heart is nearly half way through its journey and this has given members an element of ‘togetherness’ during a difficult time. Shielding members have also got involved.

The club also has ties with the Women Empowering Women Facebook page. The Club Chair set this up originally bringing lots of like minded women together. Various subjects are discussed – exercise, menopause, photography, diet and social events. Lots of the ladies on the page were cyclists and following a face to face meeting with lots of members early 2020 a separate cycle club was born.

Do you also have a children’s / youth section / Go Ride club?

No

Do you offer opportunities for members to train as coaches, ride leaders, etc?

No. However if someone would like to lead a ride, support would be given.

Any other information you would like to share:

We are a brand new club as of 2020! We formed in March and are affiliated to British Cycling. We have a beautiful kit and an enthusiastic committee and members. COVID resulted in a slow start but through our Facebook page we have maintained our ethos. We have recently commenced club cycling again in line with current guidance.
