Hervelo Cycling

Where are you based?

Edinburgh

Cycling Disciplines:

Road cycling (‘the skinnies’) and Mountain biking (‘the mudhoneys’)

What is your club ethos?

Hervelo is a women’s club established in 2010. All club rides are friendly and sociable, with no riders left behind. Amongst the skinnies, many riders regularly take part in sportives. Although some members do take part in races, this is not a major focus for the club. Although  the club is open to men, the vast majority of members are women.

What is the best thing about your club?

Hervelo is just so friendly. New members are genuinely welcomed and the club rides are really supportive.

What club rides do you run?

A regular club road ride is held on the first Sunday of each month, usually meeting in Dalkeith. The rides are 40-50 miles, at a speed of 12-15mph and include a cafe stop. Rides are also organised by members through the Hervelo Skinnies Facebook page (open to members only) which allows members to organise rides where and when suits them. The average speed suggested for all rides is accurate.

Do you wait for dropped riders / mechanicals on some or all of your rides?

Yes. On all rides

What is the minimum standard you would expect from new club riders?

To join the monthly club run you should be capable of riding around 30 miles at an average speed of around 12mph when riding alone. Ideally you should be capable of fixing a puncture on your bike and you must bring along a spare inner tube for your own bike.

What do you expect riders to bring on club runs?

You should bring along at least one spare inner tube, a pump, tyre levers, money for a cafe stop, and anything else you would normally take on a ride.

Are bikes other than road bikes acceptable on any rides?

Road bikes for all skinnies rides.

Mountain bikes for all mudhoneys rides
