Revolution Cycle Team

Club Name:

Revolution Cycle Team

Where are you based?

Cycling Disciplines:

Road, mountain bike, gravel, junior section

What is your club ethos?

To be one of the friendliest clubs in the North!

What is the best thing about your club?

That we are just that!

What club rides do you run?

Sunday Social rides every Sunday meeting at The Links car park at 9am in the summer and 9.30am in winter.

The last Sunday of every month are cafe stop socials, so bring your pennies!

During the summer, Tuesday evenings at 6.30pm are speed sessions and Thursday evenings are hill climbing nights.

Visitors and holiday makers are very welcome to join us on our social rides.

Do you wait for dropped riders / mechanicals on some or all of your rides?

Nobody gets dropped on a Sunday Social and help with mechanicals is always offered.

What is the minimum standard you would expect from new club riders?

Sunday Socials vary in distance, routes and direction, depending on which members attend in the morning. The average speed would be around 12-15 mph but nobody gets left behind.

What do you expect riders to bring on club runs

A helmet, something to drink and maybe a snack. It’s also a good idea to have a kit or saddle bag containing any spares you might need such as inner tube, tyre levers, a multi tool, puncture repair patches and a pump. You don’t need to necessarily know how to use them, as other members can help, but it is good to have your own.

Are bikes other than road bikes acceptable on any rides?

It is recommended to have a road bike on Sunday Social’s. A hybrid bike with flat handlebars and thinner road tyres would be OK too. mountain bikes are not recommended for Sunday Social’s but we do have occasional off road rides throughout the year.

Aspects of cycling the club is involved in:

Social runs

Coached sessions for children

Competing in races

Taking part in sportives

Competing in cyclocross

Night time rides

Do you run club social events?

Yes. Occasional meetings off the bike and a yearly award ceremony.

Number of members (roughly):

41 adult members and 34 juniors

Current percentage of female members:

19% adults and 33% in the juniors

Please give details of any projects you have or are running to support and encourage women:

Women are most welcome in our club. In the past, there have been women-only beginner sessions in the summer evenings. We are hoping to start these up again in the future. There is also a local Breeze group, so new women cyclists can gain some confidence through the Breeze programme, then join the Revolution.

Do you also have a children’s / youth section / Go Ride club?

Yes. Revolution Juniors are a large part of the club, with many local children thoroughly enjoying coached sessions.

Do you offer opportunities for members to train as coaches, ride leaders, etc?
